Our Mission

The Coda Legacy Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to preserve Deaf and Coda stories, strengthen Deaf-Parented families, advance language justice, and ensure that the experiences of Children of Deaf Adults are recognized in research, education, mental health, advocacy, and public policy.

The project brings together Codas of all ages, Deaf parents, grandparents, families, researchers, professionals, and community allies to examine how language access, Deaf culture, family roles, identity, and intergenerational experiences shape Coda lives.

Its work includes:

  • Collecting and preserving Coda stories and oral histories

  • Honoring Coda elders and documenting community history

  • Supporting healthier relationships between Deaf parents and Coda children

  • Creating education, workshops, mentorship, and healing opportunities

  • Promoting language justice throughout the entire Deaf family

  • Encouraging Coda-centered research led by or created in partnership with Codas

  • Developing accessible resources in ASL and English

  • Building connections among Codas across generations

  • Ensuring that Coda knowledge helps shape future services, systems, and policies

At its heart, the Coda Legacy Project recognizes that Codas have carried language, culture, family stories, responsibility, resilience, and love across generations. These experiences deserve to be seen, understood, documented, and passed forward.

The Coda Legacy Project: Preserving Our Stories. Strengthening Our Families. Building the Future.
